
Addiction Recovery Therapy Groups
All the below groups are facilitated by Staff at Life Balance Counseling Peoria and meet weekly in the Life Balance Counseling office. Each group requires a commitment of faithful attendance and the fee is $50 per person/per weekly meeting. Some are able to bill groups to their insurance.
An Individual session is mandatory with a therapist at Life Balance Counseling Peoria before joining a group, and individual work with a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT) or a therapist who understands sex addiction is highly recommended in order to attend the Sexual Addiction groups at Life Balance Counseling Peoria.
Please note that admittance to the group is based on clinical discretion and available space. It may be determined that group therapy or on-going attendance in a group may not be the best support depending upon the client’s presenting issues and healing journey.Please contact us for further questions and information about the current available space of any of these groups.
“Help.Her.Heal” 12 Week Skills Building Work Group for Men to Develop Empathy
A Work Group for Men who want to learn how to begin to rebuild trust through demonstrable actions, not simply making promises. The participants will learn how their actions caused traumatic betrayal to their wives, a perspective changing shift towards empathy development. The participants will work on skills to increase open & authentic sharing, and deepen emotional intimacy. This group is a combination of homework assignments, role-playing, and small group experiences done in an atmosphere of safety, confidentiality, and respect. The group is based on the pioneering work of Carol Juergensen Sheets’ book, “Help.Her.Heal.” The group focus is on the continuing application the tools of recovery, monitoring sexual sobriety, maintenance of lifestyle balance, and deeper trauma work that is conducive to healing and long-term recovery.
This work group is a 12 week commitment and requires participation in one’s own individual therapy.
Therapy Groups for Men Recovering from Sex/Porn Addiction
These mens’ therapy groups are ongoing weekly sessions designed to create deep connections in a safe and supportive environment to achieve and maintain sexual sobriety, hold participants accountable, and work through deeper issues. It is a combination of group processing, outside homework assignments, and experiential work done in a non-judgemental atmosphere of safety, confidentiality, and respect. The group utilizes a variety of materials from Dr. Patrick Carnes including the Facing the Shadow Workbook, the Recovery 101 Workbook, and 12 Step materials. The group focus is on learning to use the tools of recovery, monitoring sexual sobriety, breaking through denial, and maintaining a life balance that is conducive to recovery. This group compliments individual therapy by managing the addiction in a structured supportive setting.
Partner’s of Sex Addicts Therapy Group
Life Balance Counseling offers a therapy group for the partners of sexual/pornography addicts. This group is an ongoing safe and supportive weekly group to assist the partners of sex addicts to establish and maintain boundaries to begin their healing journey. It is a combination of educational components, homework assignments, and small group experiences done in an atmosphere of safety, confidentiality, and respect. The group utilizes a variety of materials from Dr. Stefanie Carnes including the Facing Heartbreak Workbook, Michelle Mays’ book, “The Betrayal Bind,” 12 Step materials, and more. The group focus is on the continuing application the tools of recovery, setting healthy boundaries, maintenance of lifestyle balance, and deeper trauma work that is conducive to healing and long-term recovery. The group involves a minimum of a 12 week commitment and participation in individual therapy. This group compliments individual therapy by managing the addiction in a structured supportive setting.
Adult Children of Alcoholics Therapy Group
Life Balance Counseling offers a therapy group for the Adult Children of Alcoholics/Addicts/Mean Mom’s/Dysfunctional Parents. This group is an ongoing safe and supportive weekly group to assist the partners of sex addicts to establish and maintain boundaries to begin their healing journey. It is a combination of educational components, process group, homework assignments, and small group experiences done in an atmosphere of safety, confidentiality, and respect.
